Environmental stress: The anxiety and depression may actually have nothing whatsoever to do with the bug/flu. Ask yourself, how are you managing day to day stressors that co-occur with the flu? Life is tough enough without being ill, but when one is ill past a certain point, the drain on one's emotional resources can easily put one at risk for anxiety and/or depression. EVERYONE has limits. Even you! And that's OK!

Great Question : It's not unusual for depression and anxiety to get worse with an acute medical problem such as infection. We especially see this in the elderly (not that you are in that category). It goes back to the mind-body connection. When the body suffers, it impacts the brain. You should start to get some relief in a couple weeks. If not, see your doctor. Get plenty of rest and reduce your stress level.
