A member asked:

I have a small bump and a slightly darker spot on my bottom lip. it's been there for a few months. could it be cancer or anything dangerous?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Probably not: The lip is the junction of oral mucosa and the skin below it. Most malignancies of the lip are mucosal squamous cancers that present as enlarging ulcerating lesions that can become painful. Deeper in the lip, there are salivary glands which may undergo transformation and present as a nodular lesion. If the lump does not resolve or continues to enlarge it might require excision.
