Good: Hearing is screened routinely at birth in the US. Between 2 and 10 percent of infants do not pass the initial test, OAE, and go on to a repeat test later. Most will pass the second test and the ones who do not go on to ABR. Of all newborns tested, only 1 percent or fewer will have significant hearing loss. Risk is increased if there is a family history of deafness.
