A member asked:

Had low vit d of 10. sent for pth/ca. calcium is 9.9, pth is 70. does this show early parathyroid problem or do i need more testing?

Vitamin D: Vitamin D reference data in dependent on ethnicity being normal but lowest in African Americans. If that is not you you need to have the vitamin D assay repeated. A simpler approach would be to go to your pharmacy and buy over-the-counter vitamin D. 100 capsules per bottle - 1000 or 2000 units per capsule. Not expensive. If you have a repeat vitamin D test it will cost you much more than OTC.
