Ears and cotton swab: You will push the ear wax up against your ear drum and you may interfere with hearing and in face also put yourself at risk of infection and inflammation and pain. I think the common myth is that you should not stick anything smaller than your elbow in your ear....

Ear drum perf: That is risk with putting something smaller than your elbow in your ear canal--can perforate ear drum. Causes hearing loss and often dizziness. Often needs surgical intervention to resolve optimally.
