A member asked:

Alot of pain since lumbar puncture last year. dr ordered 2 mri's- pelvic and lower back- can't they see everything from just one test vs 2?

Depends: MRI is a great test. However, the resolution changes depending on the area scanned. The bigger the area, the lower the resolution (detail increases with higher resolution). To improve resolution, they need to focus the MRI on the area of concern. I am guessing they included the pelvis to make sure something else wasn't causing the pain, outside the area of the lumbar puncture.
