Occipital neuralgia: Sounds like there is irritation of the nerve there. Causes can include trauma to the back of the head, neck tension and/or tight neck muscles, osteoarthritis, rarely tumors in the neck, cervical disc disease, infection, gout and diabetes. People with migraine can sometimes experience occipital neuralgia too.
