You need a scope.: A recurrent sore throat is not uncommon. If you have more than 6 infections in 1 year it is recommended to remove your tonsils. Feeling that something is stuck in your throat is uncommon and especially with your history of smoking my suggestion would be to visit and ENT (Ear Nose and Throat) doctor for a look at the back of your throat. I would also suggest to quit smoking.
