Arthritis?: Low back pain, after the age of 40 is not at all uncommon. The most common cause, is lumbar spondylosis, also known as, simply, arthritis. This is especially true common in people who've done manual labor most of their lives. Sometimes, I disc herniation, can confirm stability which can cause low back pain.
