A member asked:

If someone suffers from gerd, does that means that their stomach acid levels are higher than that of someone else's?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not necessarily: GERD just means they have developed symptoms related to the backwash of stomach acid. This is a normal event in most people and most tolerate it without problems. Some have lifestyle choices that aggravate the process. Nicotine and caffeine intake, food choice and reclining after eating all aggravate the process as do some infections. Meds that decrease acid production help it heal.
