Directly dependent: Total Cholesterol is by definition all the cholesterol carried on lipoproteins in your body. So this is HDL-cholesterol + LDL-Cholesterol + Cholesterol carried on other lipoproteins (which we estimate by knowing the Triglyceride level). So if your TC went up 0.7 and your HDL did too, this completely explains the difference.
