HPV is not: directly associated with vaginal discharge, but is associated with chronic cervical inflammation, cervical cancer and Sexually Transmitted Infections/STI. May times HPV positive women have NO symptoms - which is why it is so important to get SCREENED in your 20's. The only way to diagnose an active INFECTION is with clinical exam and CULTURES. Not HPV: See my reply to your other question. An HPV test can be done on the pap specimen, in addition to the Pap smear itself. There are no other tests. HPV doesn't cause discharge. If you have vaginal discharge, you need tests for other causes, including tests for common STDs like gonorrhea and chlamydia, and vaginal infections like trichomonas, bacterial vaginosis, and yeast infection.
