Look higher up!: It could be your lower back or somewhere else, even the way you sleep at night, or possibly if you are a side sleeper. Provide enough support for your neck and legs if you favor side sleeping, or you'll wake up having aches in areas you never thought of before. Cervical or memory pillows may be helpful, or narrow pillow behind your knees for support.

A few possibIiltiies: Knee pain can be caused by a number of conditions. Causes such a meniscal injury, ligament injury, patellar syndromes are likely ruled out by negative X-rays. Some type of arthritis, gout, pseudo gout etc can occur without X-ray abnormalities, especially early in the disease. An often overlooked cause is sitting position, folding a leg under or around the leg of chair of example. Re-evaluate.
