Many conditions: There are many possible causes including reflux, asthma and post nasal drip. More information is needed though, all three of these conditions can worsen at night.

Gerd : it sounds like Gerd with nocturnal regurgitation. Particularly if sitting up makes it better. You will need a a full work up including an upper endoscopy to be sure but oftentimes gerd is more severe than just heartburn and can lead to hoarseness, coughing, and throat clearing. This is called laryngo-pharygeal reflux. The vomitting if small in quantity is due to regurgitation. Dont wait it out.
