The earliest sign of endometrial cancer is post-menopausal vaginal bleeding. That always requires investigation. Screening tests are not useful in endometrial or ovarian cancer, but Pap smears as a screening for cervical cancer saves lives.

Endometrial cancer: I am very sorry to hear about your mother. People with endometrial cancer usually present with abnormal uterine bleeding. Some people don't see their doctor and ignore this for months, sometimes years. There is nothing a relative can do if the patient never confides that there is anything wrong. An endometrial biopsy is performed and usually reveals the diagnosis. You did nothing wrong.
