TB: There are false positives with the blood test for TB, but overall it can be used in evaluating a pt with TB. Cultures to try to grow the actual bacteria will be performed to confirm the diagnosis and to assess which medications will work best. Your travel and exposure history should be obtained by your physician. I would also recommend testing all household members.

What it means: A positive blood or skin test for TB does not mean that you have active tuberculosis. If you do not have any symptoms then you probably do not have active TB. What it means is that you have been explosed to TB and may have latent TB organisms in your body. You will need a chest xray and your doctor may suggest that you take a medication to keep the TB from becoming an active infection.
