Exercise and meds: Exercise helps condition the heart, causing it to develop collateral vessels around the blockages. Taking a Nitroglycerin under the tongue before exercise may help to prevent the discomfort. Using long acting Nitroglycerin or a medication called Ranexa (ranolazine) may reduce the frequency of anginal episodes.
