A member asked:

Is it true if genotype as and sa get married they will give birth to ss ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

CAN, not will!: Hi. The chance of AS parents having an SS child is 25%. Based on Mendelian distribution (which the sickle gene follows), 25% of children will be AA homozygotes, 50% will be AS heterozygotes, and 25% will be SS homozygotes. Amniotic genotyping is possible, and you could prevent an SS homozygote with testing. As you and your wife know, heterozygotes generally do fine. Peace and good luck.
