Fibroid Uterus: Fibroids are benign smooth muscle tumors aka leiomyomas which are extremely common. I would guess that more than 50% of women over 50 years old have them. They can infarct and become calcified and very rarely cause abnormal bleeding or trouble conceiving but most often they don't cause symptoms. They can be located in the subserosal, sub mucosal or myometrial location.
