Lorazepam conversion: generally 1 mg of lorazepam is equivalent to 0.5 mg of alprazolam. However - alprazolam (xanax) is generally a little longer acting medication -8-12 hours vs 2-6 with lorazepam. How it is taken also will effect its onset ie taking it sublingually will cause lorazepam to start working faster

Pharmacist: I feel that the two medications are just about equivalent but your local pharmacist is an expert on these matters and is better qualified to answer your question about medications' potency.
