Can muscle tension from anxiety cause you to have a muscle sprain/muscle tear/muscle pull, etc?

Only part of problem: John, While anxiety can increase muscle tone, this is not likely the biggest reason for a tear. More likely the injured muscle was tight from lack of stretching, or even over-stretching/weakness. A muscle tear or sprain is diagnosed through a physical exam by a doctor and confirmed with an MRI. Although if the pain improves spontaneously an MRI often will not alter the treatment plan.
