Dietician: I recommend that you make an appointment with a trained dietician at your local hospital. She/he will instruct you on the proper diet for you and determine the weight, calorie intake and type of diet that is best for you. An alternate plan is to make an appointment at the hospital's actual weight loss clinic where you will be thoroughly evaluated and followed closely.

Yes: It's not only safe to cut out all simple carbohydrates, but it will be highly beneficial. Carbs are the enemy, if you've got metabolic syndrome. In fact, you'd do well to cut out all carbohydrates--i.e., the Atkins diet. In addition, I recommend Metformin, and the starch-blockers Acarbose or Glyset (miglitol). They prevent the conversion and absorption of complex carbohydrates--and will help with wt loss
