Complex question: Anxiety and pain can feed one another. Xanax (alprazolam) can break the cycle. Stopping xanax (alprazolam) can uncover the cycle and restart it. If you tapered xanax (alprazolam) too quickly, there can be withdrawal, which would feel like anxiety/spasm and possibly pain. There are many ways to deal with back pain besides medications: massage, exercise, meditation, yoga. Try to find a good physiatrist, physical therapist, etc.
