Stool softeners: Stool softeners, such as Colace, (docusate sodium) are generally considered safe during pregnancy. It moistens the stool and makes it easier to pass. The iron in your prenatal vitamin may be contributing. Non-pharmacologic strategies include drinking lots of water, daily physical activity/walking, and more fiber in diet. Your doctor will need to suggest any stronger laxatives. Good wishes:)
