Pec major tendon tears are much less common than rot cuff tears and are usually related to an eccentric contraction while bench pressing. Tears in the muscle belly can be treated non-operatively. Tears off the humerus leave a deformity in the axillary fold( near the armpit) and almost always require surgical fixation of the tendon back to the humerus. Best of Luck!
