Not easy to answer: Pectoral tears, particularly full thickness are rather rare. I'm not sure how you know you have a full thickness tear if you haven't been evaluated. And if you have been evaluated, the orthopedic doctor should be able to give you an idea based on your history and exam type of tear, or set you up for imaging(usually MRI) to delineate the nature of the tear.

Pec rupture: You are describing a typical mechanism of injury for your injury: an extreme eccentric contraction during maximum tension - in this case bench pressing. Given your relatively young age and activity level, I would lean towards primary fixation via an open repair. With initial post operative immobilization followed by sports specific PT you should be able to return to the weight room.
