Maybe: The most common cause of intermittent knife-like pain is a "stitch" fold in the pleura (chest wall lining) that is worst when you breathe in. It is harmless and is best relieved by a maximum deep breath. Continuous chest pain unrelated to injury, or severe non-transient pain, or radiating or with shortness of breath, should prompt a physician visit.
