Possibilities: If the lump is very firm, it could simply be the xiphoid process which is the cartilage at the lower tip of the sternum(breastbone) and is a normal structure. If it is a soft protrusion simulating a hernia, it may be a nonserious separation of the abdominal muscle bodies(diastasis recti). It's best to have your physician examine you to be sure,however.
