Many metals: There are many types of metal used in metal/ceramic crowns. If that would be a problem for you, then ask your dentist about non-metal type crowns. There are several very good types available now.

Yes, some do.: Yes, if a base metal is used under the crown, there may be nickel in the metal. There are others types of crown options that do not contain nickel however, such as all porcelain and Porcelain fused to gold. Make sure you inform your Dentist of the allergy, and they should make sure to recommend the correct type of crown for you.

Metal allergy: I have never seen or heard of a dental patient having an allergic reaction to either an all ceramic or ceramic/gold crown. There are all sorts of metal compositions of semi-precious and non-precious metals that certainly can cause allergic problems, both locally and systemically. If you have those types of existing crowns discuss this issue with your own dentist and an allergist for recommendation
