The rule is every...: 6 months or sooner. Especially if you experience cold or flu symptoms in between. I prefer to change every 3 months so you are right in the window between 3 and 6 months.

Yes,It's ok.: Replace your toothbrush about every 3 to 4 months, or when it shows signs of wear. Frayed bristles will not clean the teeth and gums adequately. Toss toothbrushes after illness.
