Splinters: Splinters of wood do not dissolve in the hands or the feet; splinters tend to wall themselves and can form small abscesses. Try to soak the hand in warm water with salt and a tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide. See if it loosens it up. Disinfect a tweezer and try to remove it. If it is too deep, you may have to see a dermatologist or your primary to remove it. The body can't dissolve this.
