Broader effects: Amitriptyline is among the original antidepressant medications (FDA approved in 1961 for depression) with effects on serotonin like the SSRIs, but also with significant effects on norepinephrine and other neurotransmitters. It has shown benefits in a range of conditions: approval in Australia for depression, migraine, neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia. Side effects are quite different tho.
