Low grade diffuse: A fever is usually defined as a temp greater than 100.4 degrees. Saying that it is "viral" means that other causes such as bacteria are less likely. Why? Because a bacterial infection usually has a source, like the bladder, skin, lungs, etc. and follows typical historical qualities and physical findings. General vs specific: Hello! In general, the term viral fever would refer to any fever that results from an infection with any virus...from the flu/influenza to chicken pox. "Viral fever" might also refer to viral hemorrhagic fevers which are a group of illnesses caused by viruses that cause vascular/blood vessel damage that results in bleeding/hemorrhage. Ebola and dengue are examples of viral hemorrhagic fevers--VHFs
