Tooth pain: It sounds like an infected or fractured tooth. After 8 visits, I think you need a second opinion. See another dentist, or an Endodontist (root canal specialist).

Seek consultations: please see an Endodontist, a root canal specialist, to asses the vitality of the involved tooth and to evaluate for fracture. Also, try sitting down, bending over, and putting your head between your knees. If pain increases you may have infected sinus and require treatment by an ENT.

Atypical Odontalgia: Once AO has been diagnosed, the earlier the intervention, the better the prognosis. Of course, any dental treatment such as endodontic treatment, apicoectomy, extraction and selective tooth grinding is contraindicated. See Orofacial Pain practitioner for diagnosis and treatment.
