Painful periods: What you describe is common with "endometriosis", and can begin at early menstrual dates and continue. The only definitive test is to look at your internal pelvic anatomy (laparoscopy) at the time of your menses. The usual treatment, which also preserves fertility is oral contraceptives, which can also stop the severe cramping and nauses, diarrhea which can also occur with your periods.
