5th day on omeprazole for cough, how long shall i be on it? i don't wanna be dependent on it but it helps my cough. does it come back when stopped?

Possible reflux: if it is helping your cough, then this may be an extra esophageal presentation of acid reflux. These tend to be chronic conditions and usually tend to need maintenance acid suppression therapy.
