Scabies Treatment: Permethrin is a medicine most commonly used for treatment of scabies and lice. By your description, it sounds like you are being treated for scabies? Typically 2 treatments are given 1 week apart to both patient and close personal contacts (spouse, children etc). Most people will continue to itch for 3-4 weeks after treatment as the reaction to the dead scabies mite and eggs subsides.

Permethrin: Please understand that much of the infection with scabies is now resistant to over the counter concentration of permethrin. If you are not using prescription strength you may not be fully treated. And it is alway wise to do the treatment twice one week apart.
