DDx: What is the differential diagnosis (DDx) of chest wall pain? First thing anyone in an ER would want to rule out is heart ischemia or pulmonary embolism (PE) or aortic dissection. I think those are highly unlikely. Most likely includes pleurisy (inflammation of the lung lining), costochondritis (connective tissue inflammation), fractured rib (from trauma including cough). Also breast cancer or cyst
