Yes, not same target: Dbs is most commonly used for parkinson disease, essential tremor, and dystonia. Usually the dystonia is a generalized dystonia although it can be used for more focal dystonia ie cervical (neck) as well. The target for essential tremor is usually the thalamus, while the target for dystonia is the globus pallidus interna. If someone was having it for both disease states, a careful plan is needed.

Difficult decisions: Dbs is a significant procedure and the surgeons who provide this intervention very carefully screen all patients and coordinate with their neurologists. Although valuable for dystonia, far less used for essential tremor, and unlikely that different sites would be employed. Outcome might favor aiming to control dystonia, as the essential tremor more likely will respond to medication.
