No: A Pulmonary embolus causes a loss of blood flow to a segment of lung. Atelectasis represents collapse of a segment of lung not due to lack of blood flow but because of the inability to inspire deeply. A pulmonary embolus occurs secondary to a blood clot moving usually from the legs to the lung. Deep inspirations treat Atelectasis whereas blood thinners are the treatment for pulmonary emboli
