Are there any health benefits to chewing gum?

Possibly, but.....: Chewing gum promotes salivation. Saliva helps dilute the acid in our mouths that is produced by the bacteria every time we eat. This in turn could lead to reduced tooth decay. The down side is that lots of gum chewing can lead to TMJ dysfunction. My advice is take proper care of your teeth by brushing, and flossing and skip the gum chewing.

Sugar-free gum: Research suggests that sugar-free gum can reduce tooth decay. However, too much chewing can increase wear and tear on the TMJ.

Chewing gum: If you cannot brush, chewing sugarless gum after a meal can " help" clean the teeth by increasing saliva flow and dislodging food debris. However, it is not a substitute for proper brushing and flossing, especially at bedtime.
