Musculoskeletal: Costalchondritis is inflammation of the juncture where a rib joins the cartilage that connects ribs to the sternum. It is exquisitely tender to palpation. Causes can vary and a mechanical strain evoked by lifting, pushing, or pulling can evoke. Some theorize that a virus can cause some cases. A small injection of cortisone can sometimes dramatically resolve.
