Asthma: Viral infections can trigger asthma - asthma should be treated with standard meds your doc has outlined for your exacerbations. Generally this includes bumping up to regularly scheduled beta agonists (albuterol) and adding steroids (inhaled or oral). You should be measuring your peak flows so you have an idea of lung function and to know if you are getting into serious trouble.

Supervision: Prednisone is used to treat asthmatic symptoms but should never be taken without a physician's instructions or supervision as the dosage is critical As is the duration and tapering off of therapy as rebound flareups can occur as well as potential side effects.
