My daughter is afraid of needles but needs blood work checkup; is there anything that can be done to help with pain, is a certain needle best to use?

Needles: The difficulty has more to do with the phobia than the actual pain. Topical gels can be used to numb the surface, many children's hospitals have pre filled syringes with numbing medicine connected to the tiniest needle. That can be used before the blood draw to essentially eliminate the pain. The fear,especially with children, is difficult because even with the medicine they are still anxious

Talk to a child : psychologist. They can teach the child some simple relaxation techniques and explain ways to alleviate their fear of needles. Teaching them to relax and look in the other direction for instance can help.
