Won't help: The only thing that will work is to face your fear boldly. The amount of pain you feel is not really a function of needle size. Any competent phlebotomist can work to put you at ease. Tell him/her. Talk with your physician about management of your fear, and perhaps seek out someone who can do talk / CBT -- success here is likely to carry over into other areas of your life where fear's bad.

CBT: Regardless of needle type, seek a cognitive-behavioral therapist who specializes in phobias. One method they use is systematic desensitization which slowly and incrementally brings the person closer and closer to the thing they are afraid of in slow, graduated steps that help make the anxiety more tolerable.
