Depends: It all depends on what type of surgery he had and the type of anesthesia used. The effect of anesthesia varies for different individuals. Once the anesthesia wears off, your dad should be more awake.

Depends: It honestly depends on 1) what kind of surgery he had and 2) what kind of anesthesia he was given. Sometimes it takes a little while for the anesthesia given during the surgery to wear off and patients may take a little while to fully wake up from it. Also, depending on the surgery, sometimes if it's a more painful surgery they may want to increase the length of time he's sleeping for his comfort.
