Never had a hive until 18 mo ago. allergist couldnt explain what caused it. said it would "go away". didnt change a thing but it just cleared. why?

Well: We don't know the cause in most cases of chronic hives although about 1/3 of them is considered of autoimmune nature. Hives can usually be controlled, however, with high doses of antihistamine and an anti-IgE product has been highly effective in most cases. It may go away in a few years, but this is not a certainty.
