A member asked:

My pap smear was of asc-us. the letter from my doctor said "abnormal," but the letter from the lab says "asc-us," unclear. is it unclear or abnormal?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

He is correct,,,: This means Atypical Squamous Cells of Uncertain Significance, hence ASC-US. This is also unclear in that it is not possible in this specimen to see how atypical they are, be they low grade or high grade cells. It is best to schedule a repeat test at the appropriate time according to yourdoctor's reccomendation. Good luck.
