Vasoconstriction: Veins constrict or shrink due to spasm or contraction of muscle in the vein wall. Temperature, hormonal or nervous alterations can affect this process. Since they swell in warm conditions and shrink in the cold, obstruction is not likely. Postional changes also influence this,noted when raising the arm or lowering.
