Most fx heal by 6 wk: Most fractures heal around the 6 week point. Changing from a rigid form of immobilization to a removable boot is also common at the 6 week point. Your treating orthopaedic surgeon will likely be following your healing both by repeat examination (out of cast at 6 weeks) and by serial x-rays to assess for solid bony healing.

If it is stable: As long as your ankle joint is stable and doesn't have any severe ligament injuries, it should be ok to begin weight bearing after i month in a boot.
